OUR VOICES
WHO WE ARE
Too often we have become so entrenched in our own opinions and ideologies that we are distracted from the commonalities that are our power to overcome, and we focus on the differences between us versus our capacity to work together to right the wrongs and address the huge disparities that exist in our society. Voices Of the Resistance is a growing community of creative voices from around the world, advocates for positive change and seekers of a more interconnected, respectful and compassionate world. With immense hope and faith in humankind, this site springs urgently out of a time in our history when truth too often must spar for its rightful place within the discussions that divide and anger our nation. Our airwaves are clogged with noise, flagrant lies and covert half-truths. Honest civil discourse between us has been pushed recklessly to the side by individual ambitions, replaced and redacted by bravado and an impatience for those who disagree or even look different than ourselves.
Or so it sometimes seems.
I believe that our continued faith in the American dream over these centuries has not been extended in vain. But America must get real, and now is the time. For while America is at its best when recognizing as her central values her wit and unceasing spirit of determination, coupled with the magnificence of invention, science, creativity and compassion, she is also a nation built on greed, power, stolen land and stolen people. And until some effort of truth and reconciliation about our past is embraced in earnest, none of us will be truly free, and America’s soul will continue to exist unsettled, her soil stained and her tears left undried.
If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
-U.S. Congressman and former freedom fighter, John Lewis.
And so, to the mission of this site~ We must care enough to fix things, not tomorrow but today, and if for no one else, for our children and children’s children who will inherit this land one day, hopefully one not scorched by the fires of hate, or lacking in air that is breathable, clean lakes, rivers and wells. This is the beautiful gift to us, this earth, this country, this world and all her living things. So it is not the time to quit or to continue to feed division. There is too much at stake. We betray the faith of our ancestors who passed the responsibility to us, when we see the wrongs of today and choose not to right them, or in the most crucial of times, we see the pain and needs of others, and we just don’t care. We are living in crucial times. We must care. Our voices, our chorus, must rise.
- R. Khan
“One cannot live with sighted eyes and feeling heart and not know or react to the miseries that afflict this world”
- Lorraine Hansberry, playwright: A Raisin In the Sun, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, Les Blancs, The Drinking Gourd, What Use Are Flowers.

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
LEAN ON ME

“The country is so wounded… The country needs to be healed—it's not going to be healed from the top, politically. How are we going to heal? Art is the healing force.”
-Robert Redford, actor, director, producer, and founder of the Sundance Film Festival
